Inclusion is a vital core element in CISCOPE programming. CISCOPE ensures that persons living with disability (PWD), women and youths are captured in its programs and activities. In project designs it is necessary that the views of vulnerable populations is properly reflected to ensure that they are not discriminated against.
Kaluma Dauda whose photograph appears above is amongst beneficiaries that received cholera kits in Ndubange community in Lamurde LGA, Adamawa state. PWD are more vulnerable and are at higher risk of exposure to diseases if proper measures are not taken to safe guard them. Kaluma is a member of a household of 8 people and according to him there is no facility at home and in the community that supports him with regards to personal hygiene/sanitation. He uses the general latrine which is difficult for decent usage.
He was however grateful to have received the cholera kits which he said will help improve hygiene and sanitation in his household. He said as a PWD disability, the hygiene challenge is more and that the kits he received will go a long way in addressing his hygiene/sanitation needs.
Kaluma also participated in the hygiene promotion campaigns conducted by CISCOPE in the community. He explained that he has learnt so much from the sessions conducted. Kaluma reiterated “I have learnt the importance of regular/proper handwashing, proper waste and excretal disposal and the importance of covering/handling water and food
