The people of the mountainous community of Mukula/Mitre in Michika LGA, display the waka waka device recieved from CISCOPE/OXFAMwaka display

After the destruction of electricity in michika Adamawa State, the inhabitants have been in darkness since 2014, and there seems to be no hope insight to fix the problem, OXFAM/CISCOPE, thought it wise to bring some form of rechargeble solar power to the community. The waka waka rechargeable solar device helps beneficiaries to charge their phones and also serves as a form of torch light at night, the owner only has to charge it by placing the device under the sun during the day time. Here is the Program Manager and his team enlightening beneficiaries in kamale, a border town  in Michika LGA, Nigeria, before Cameroon, on the use of waka waka.

Beneficiaries queue to recieve cash under the just concluded "Livelihood and Economic Recovery Support for North East Nigeria" implemented by OXFAM/CISCOPE.

hauwa ibrahimOxfam/CISCOPE, have nurtured a partnership since 2014, carrying out humanitarian activities in Nigeria, but it's recent work, that is, the cash disbursement project funded by UNDP to support early recovery and economic livelihood of displaced persons which happens to be returnees now in the North Eastern part of Nigeria has helped in transforming lives for good.

The plight of inhabitants in the North East more specifically those of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, which were directly affected by the spate of violent religious extremism, have not improved very much, this is compared especially to the kind of publicity being given to their ordeal.

Both national and international Non-Governmental Organisations have been doing their bit to bring relief to affected communities. CISCOPE in partnership with OXFAM, have been working hard and steadfastly, as funds permit, to reach quite a number of displaced persons, through distribution of Food and Non Food items (NFIs), carrying out trainings on how to help victims resettle both economically and socially, distribution of fertilizer and even cash transfer. But even with the impressive job being done by both CISCOPE and OXFAM, there is still more ground to be covered.

Here is a documentary by The Guardian on some of CISCOPE/OXFAM activities.
